REPORT

A National Seminar on “New Trends and Innovations in Geotextile Reinforcement” organised by the Department of Civil Engineering,Sarabhai Institute of Science & Technology, Vellanad, Thiruvananthapuram in association with The Institution of Engineers(India),Kerala State Centre had been successfully conducted on the Days 19^th and 20^th of September,2017. Three Technical talks by prominent academicians and practicing professionals in the area of Geotechnical Engineering had been arranged on the First day of Seminar; viz. talk by:

1) Dr.K.Balan, Vice Principal, Rajadhani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nagaroor, Thiruvananthapuram on the topic “REINFORCEMENT POTENTIAL OF COIR GEOTEXTILES”.

2) Dr.JayasreeP.K., Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram on the topic “Soil Reinforcement and Geosynthetics”.

3) Dr. Jayamohan J.,Principal, LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Thiruvananthapuram on the topic, ‘Numerical Modelling of Reinforced Soil’

The National Seminar started with the Inaugural session; where Prof.Dr.K.Balan,Vice Principal,Rajadhani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nagaroor, Thiruvananthapuram, was the Chief Guest, Er.N.Rajkumar, Chairman, IEI Kerala State Centre, Er.Udayakumar K.S., MIE, Honorary Secretary, IEI Kerala State Centre, Er.Sarat Kumar, Former Secretary, IEI Kerala State Centre, Er.Hariharan, MIE,Committee Member, Civil Engineering Division,IEI KSC and Chairman, Indian Institution of Technical Arbitrators, Thiruvananthapuram Centre, Mr.RamNarayanan, NewsletterEditor, IEI KeralaStateCentre, Dr.K.R.Kaimal, Director, Sarabhai Institute of Science & Technology (SIST), Dr.V.V.Karunakaran, Principal, SIST, Prof.Koshy Mammen, Vice Principal, SIST and Prof.Sunil J., Head of the Department of Civil Engineering were  other distinguished dignataries for the function.

The second day consisted of Paper Presentations where 10 papers were presented by M.Tech.students and faculty from other colleges, Industry experts and faculty of SIST.
